Cambridge Bookshop holds the prestigious title of being the oldest publishing house in the world, having been established in 1534 with letters of authorization from Henry VIII. In 1992, they opened their bookshop to proudly showcase the extensive range of publications by Cambridge Bookshop. However, the shop itself has a much longer history, as it has been selling books since 1581 under the management of William Scarlett. Interestingly, the first printer affiliated with the university, Thomas Thomas, operated his business just across the street on what is now known as Senate House Grass, an area that served as the bustling hub of book sales in the town.
